History
Cobble Hill
Chapels located at 171 Court St. Brooklyn, New York is owned and
operated by Gregory De John who purchased it from its original
owner in 1983 .
Born in the Sunset
Park Section of Brooklyn in 1954, Gregory and his family have
maintained strong ties to his old neighborhood and St. Agatha's
RC Church. He attended St. Agatha's as a child, and then went to
Bishop Ford High School and John Jay College where he graduated
with a degree in Criminal Justice.
After attending
several funerals, Gregory felt the "Calling" to enter
funeral services. He entered American Academy McAllister
Institute of Mortuary Science and graduated in 1977. After
completing an apprenticeship, he was licensed as a New York
State Funeral Director.
At that time he
purchased the Parkville Funeral Home on Coney Island Avenue in
Brooklyn. He was also an embalmer to the trade, for
various Brooklyn Funeral Homes, Cobble Hill Chapels included.
When the original owner of Cobble Hill Chapels retired, Gregory
purchased the Funeral Home and has serviced the families of
Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, Red
Hook and Sunset Park In fact, all neighborhoods with the utmost
respect, honesty and dignity that everyone deserves.
In 1999, he
married Paula Intelisano who he first met in Mortuary College.
Paula and her family own Silverton Memorial Funeral Home in Toms
River, NJ. Realizing that many of his families have moved
to New Jersey, Gregory obtained his New Jersey Funeral Directors
License and is now affiliated with Silverton Memorial Funeral
Home.
It is the goal of
Gregory and his staff to provide the families they serve with
the utmost concern and attention to their every wish and to
guide them through a difficult time in their life.
