It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Colonel David John Ramsay, on March 12,  2019 

Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 beginning at 10:30am until 11:30am

at the Union Church of Bay Ridge, located at 7915 Bay Ridge Blvd., Brooklyn, NY 

Services will be held at 11:30am at the Union Church of Bay Ridge 

 

Interment Services will be held on July 24, 2019 1:00pm  at Arlington National Cemetery, located in Arlington, Virginia

David John Ramsay, age 87 of Brooklyn, NY passed away March 12, 2019 peacefully at home. 

Funeral services will be held , Saturday March 23, 2019 at Union Church of Bay Ridge in Brooklyn, NY. 

Viewing from10:30am~11:30am , Service from 11:30~12:30 pm

with reverend Robert Anderle officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Arrangements are by Cobble Hill Chapel funeral home.

Col. David Ramsay was born April 17, 1931 in Syracuse, NY as the only child of David and Isabelle Ramsay. He grew up in Rochester, NY and went on to earn his AAS Degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a BFA Degree from Pratt Institute. He married Carolyn May Beck on October 12, 1962 whom he raised two children with.

He served on active duty in the US Army as a private during the Korean War, and went on to join the US Army Reserve where he served a 35 year career and retired as a Colonel. David was an active member of the Veteran Corps of Artillery of the State of New York for the past 35 years, earning the rank of Major General, and served numerous positions including Quatermaster, Vice-Commandant, and Commandant and President of the Society. During his military career, he earned numerous awards including a Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, an Army Commendation Medal, an Army Achievement Medal, the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Public Service, an Expert Field Medical Barge, a NY State Meritorious Service Medal, a NY State Military Commendation Medal, and the NY State Conspicuous Service Cross.

In addition to a busy military career, he spent time as an interior designer and antique dealer, avidly studied geneology in his spare time, and took pride in restoring his Brooklyn brownstone. He was also an active member of the English Speaking Union, Saint Andrew's Society, Reserve Officer's Association, New York Caledonian Society, Chancellor of the Huguenot Society,  The Association of the US Army,  Reserve Officers Association, and Vice President of the Sons of the American Revolution New York chapter.

David is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Ramsay as well as his daughter, Amanda Ramsay McGraw. He is survived by his son David Ramsay and daughter-in-law Hiroko; his six grandchildren, John, Jessica, Jarred, and Jordan McGraw, and David and Shanon Ramsay; and countless friends and relatives.
