Robert C. Nielsen, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, passed away on August 19, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Hartford, CT, on June 20, 1941, to the late Clifford and Amilie Nielsen, Bob’s early years in New England laid the foundation for a life of learning, service, and companionship. Bob’s journeytookhimfrom the historic streets of Harfordto the halls of Trinity College, where he graduated with a keen interest in law. He went on to receive his law degree from George Washington University, forming lifelong bonds with fellow alumni at both schools. His legal career spanned many years , during which he served at Cullen & Dykmanand later in private practice, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike.
Bob’s life was not solely defined by his professional accomplishments; he foundjoy and purpose in his active involvement with the First Church Presbyterian, where he cultivated a community of friends and neighborsin Cobble Hill. His commitment to his faith and his congregation was a testament to his character and generous spirit. A man of diverse interests, Bob was a familiar face to many shop owners and restauranteurs in his beloved Brooklyn neighborhood. His patronage and friendly demeanor will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of his company. He was a true connoisseur of life’s simple pleasures, sharing his passion for good food, good company, and the companionship of his treasured dogs.
Bob is survived by his loving sister and her husband, Carol and Baker Salsbury ofConnecticut, his nephewJoshua Peterson also of Connecticut, and his niece Sarah, her husband Steve Meunier, and their children Owen and Elise of Massachusetts (Bob always picked out the very best presents for Owen and Elise). The bond he shared with his family was one of mutual admiration and deep affection, and his role as uncle and great-uncle brought him immense joy.
Bob Nielsen’s life touched the lives of many with his warmth, integrity, and kindness. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of compassion, unwavering friendship, and dedication to his community will continue to inspire and influence for generations to come. As we bid farewell to Robert C. Nielsen, we celebrate a life well-lived and cherish the memories he leaves behind.
The Memorial Service will be held on September 15 at 3:00pm at First ChurchPresbyterian, 124 Henry St, Brooklyn. A private burial will be held atFairviewCemetery, West Hartford, CT.
