Barbara Eva Galli

  Barbara Eva Galli passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family after a long illness, at her home in Brooklyn on May 31st, 2021. She was 70. Barbara was the loving wife of 32 years of Alberto Galli and proud and caring mother of Alessandro.

  Born in Troy, NY she was the daughter of the late Edward and Eva Smith.

She leaves one brother, Edward Smith (Jane), three sisters, Elizabeth Smith (Dan Frasca), Patricia Crandall (Michael), Lynn Crandall (Patrick) and two brothers-in-law Livio Galli and Mauro Galli (Teresa).

She was loving aunt of Edward, Erin, Jennifer, Tracy, Kimberly, Brian, Zachary, and Valerio.

 Barbara was a 1968 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy NY. She then graduated from Hudson Valley Community College (AAS Medical Lab. Technology), Russell Sage College (BA Biology) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (MBA Management).

  She began her career in the Pharmaceutical Industry in the research labs of Sterling Drug, where she worked on antibiotics and biomaterials.  She moved on to the Clinical Research Department, and then to Marketing becoming Product Manager. From Marketing, she moved into advertising at LM&P, KPR, Robert A. Becker Euro RSCG, and Grey Healthcare.

Her last advertising job was with Concentric Health Experience.

  For over ten years she was an enthusiastic Cub Scout Leader (Troop/ Pack 815 in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn), organizing all activities and enjoying weekends at Cub Scout events and summer camps. 

  Barbara was a gourmet cook and enjoyed trying out new recipes. She hosted a summer picnic yearly for her family at her home in the Poconos where they enjoyed some of her favorite recipes. In her early years her interests were gardening, many crafts (like basket weaving, quilting), and antiquing (anything Shaker was a favorite). She was an enthusiastic traveler, and loved a yearly vacation with her lifetime group of friends. Of course her favorite destination was Italy. Visiting the In-Laws every year was a great reason to see the extended family, other Italian regions, and Europe. 

 In lieu of flowers, contributions to her memory may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation(www.themmrf.org) and the Visiting Nurse Service Of NY- Hospice Care (www.vnsny.org)

The Family of Edward Voluntad invites you to celebrate his lifeon Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

Visiting hours will be held  3:00 - 5:00pm 

A very special Celebration of Life Service will follow, beginning  5:00 - 7:00pm.

Our Father in Heaven called Edward home on May 18, 2021. The loss of Edward will be felt by everyone who encountered him. He was the most generous, caring, selfless and gentle soul, you could meet. He would go out of his way to assist anyone in need; his ability to help others, brought much joy to his life; especially when it came to his family. His granddaughter, Kylie was the apple of his eye. If you asked anyone about Edward, they could tell you a story of how he changed their life, with his helping hand, wisdom and compassion.

Edward was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Eva Velasquez and Edward Voluntad Sr. He had a unique knack for learning how to do just about anything. After graduating from Aviation HS in Queens, he obtained a Class A Machinist license and landed a job at Phil Shore Manufacturing in Brooklyn. Soon after, Edward opened his own business called Noelle Contracting, where he honed his skills in home improvement and renovations. Edward went on to engage in many ventures; he worked for Sanitation for many years and made his way into becoming a Drug Counselor for Phoenix House, where he later became a Director. His desire to motivate and encourage those around him, made him successful in every project he took on. Edward was an amazing father and grandfather; he did everything for his girls, right down to sewing costumes for his granddaughter’s talent shows. He was creative, artistic, funny, inquisitive and smart.

Toward the end of his life he developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and was filled with excitement when learning about the bible. He looked forward to weekly bible sessions with his family and never missed a session.

Edward was a person after God’s own heart and will be dearly missed.

Taylor Millan a lifelong resident of Staten Island NY died unexpectedly of serious medical illness on May 7,2021 at the age of 27.

Taylor is survived by her parents Dawn and Frank, stepmother Melissa, daughters Skylah and Savannah, siblings Sophia, Ashley, Daniel, Briana, Madison and Matthew, grandparents Linda and Tyrone as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews along with a predeceased grandfather Raymond. Taylor was born on July 27,1993 in Staten Island NY.   She was a devoted mother of her 2 daughters, a courageous fighter until the end. She had a personality that lit up any room. She was overly caring about others, forever putting everyone before herself. She was extremely family oriented and loyal to her loved ones.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 13,2021 at Cobble Hill Chapels 171 Court St Brooklyn NY 11201 from 2pm-7pm.

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Charles F. Each, the longstanding Manager of Cobble Hill Chapels, on Thursday morning, March 18, 2021.

Charles was known to most as "Charlie", and was born on July 22, 1943 to his parents Joseph & Frances Each ( nee Richardone). 

Charlie was predeceased by his life-partner Juan Cano Marin, who passed away unexpectedly May 22, 2020, and his cat "Shadow" who also passed unexpectedly a few days after Juan.  

Charles is survived by his sister, Diann 'Dee' Each-Ferguson, and his brother Robert 'Bobby' Each, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who had became family members along the way. 

Charles Each was a Licensed Funeral Director for over 50 years, and was extremely knowledgeable and patient with mentoring younger aspiring funeral directors about the business.  While Charlie had started in the industry working for trade houses in partnership with other funeral directors, he had also owned his own successful funeral business and was well respected amongst his peers in the industry. Charlie had began working for Cobble Hill Chapels in a part-time position in the early 1990's and over the next few years was so well received by our community, he was quickly promoted to be Manager.  Charles had devoted his lifeswork to helping families in the Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, and Carroll Gardens communities daily, and was rewarded in doing so with our families trust and loyalty. Charles was always full of sage advice, and his many years experience in the industry made him an avid problem solver, often havng a solution for all sorts of funeral dillemmas, and he also had a huge heart for hardships, never turning a family away without a solution to any problem.

Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew him during life, and his stories and tales in the funeral industry will be regaled far beyond his time and tenure here on earth.  His kindness, caring, and constant compassion was sowed in this community during some of the darkest periods of mourning in ones lives, and we will never forget his lifes work of service and dedication to maintaining the Dignity and Compassion in Funeral Service. 

Funeral Services were privately held, and Cobble Hill Chapels will host a Memorial Mass in his honor on May 22, 2021, at St. Pauls RC Church at 1:00pm. 

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Evangelista Rodriguez,  94 years,  on March 21, 2021. 

Lovingly known to family and friends as 'Pipo'.

Pipo was born in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico on April 14, 1926,  to Rufo Rodriguez, and Polonia Rivera.  

 He and his family enjoyed life in Puerto Rico until about 18 years of age, and he came to live in Brooklyn, New York. 

Brooklyn, New York became the setting stage and foundation for his life, and his love for the New York Mets. Boerum Hill served as a fine background art in illustrating the portrait of his strong lifelong bonds and love amongst his family and friends.  Pipos humor was a draw amongst many, and his charming wit and personality brought many together to appreciate and share time with him in his small 'Social Club' on Smith Street.  

Pipo was always in high demand with his dynamic personality and exceptional sense of humor. His jokes - complete with punchlines you would never forget- will live on far longer than his years, and his love for socializing amongst family and friends will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him. Pipo was more than just an exceptionally social fellow,  his full-time career of being an amicable and well loved Doorman was secondary to his favorite part time hobbies of fix-it projects with his self taught skills of carpentry, wood working, plumbing, as well as a host of other repairs he was extremely proud of.  Pipo also loved to play Dominoes and was very well known for participating in tournaments.

Pipo is predeceased by his oldest son David, and is survived in life by his sons & their families, Carlos & Olga  and Gilberto & Rosemary, and Phyllis.  He was a cherished and devoted "Poppa" with a heart full of love for his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.   Spendng time with family and friends made his life complete and whole. 

Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 between the hours of 2:00-6:30pm 

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, March 26, 2021 with a 10:00am Mass at St. Pauls Church ( Court & Congress St) 

Interment to follow at Cypress Hills Cemetery, located in Brooklyn, New York. 

Please be mindful due to the current State mandate that a mask must be worn at all times in the funeral home and social distancing requirements must be followed during the services.

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Jean René van Geuns, peacefully on Thursday,  February 18, 2021

Jean René was born in The Hague, Netherlands at the onset of World War II, and later moved growing up in Java, Indonesia. 

Jean René and his father, a member of the Dutch Resistance, distributed extra food cards, organized attacks on German Military police and helped transport Jewish families and stranded Allied pilots out of Holland.  In an attempt to join the Dutch Free Forces in Englan, Jean René traveled North, and was arrested and imprisoned in a concentration camp in Norway until the war ended. 

Jean René returned to Holland to finish his studies and earned a Law Degree from Leiden University.  He travelled to East Africa to work in diamond mines in what is now Zimbabwe ( formerly known as Rhodesia).  Soon Jean René emigrated to the United States where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Elvia Judith Miranda, and had one daughter Danielle. 

Jean René had several businesses in New York and Trinidad.  He enjoyed travelling, cared very much for his family, friends, and Masonic brothers.  He will be remembered as a generous, charing, gentle man who had enormous integrity and a great sense of humor.  Jean René is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Dr. Elvia J. van Geuns, Ph.D. and his daughter Danielle. 

Jean René often said of endeavors, "Give it hell, life is short." and while this saying may seem to be brief, the reach of Jean René's sentiment remains necessary and important coupled with his activism, courage and bravery he has shown during his life. 

Family and Friends will be welcome ot share their memories and expressions of sympathy at a Memorial Service which will be held at a later date, at Cobble Hill Chapels, located at 171 Court Street, Brooklyn, New York 11201.
